Hello all, my name is Rick. I got into turning pens about a year and a half ago but had to take a little break because the Army decided to send me to Korea. I finally got my lathe shipped over here so it's time to start back up. Up to this point, I have pretty much only turned slimlines, Wall St II's and Euro's, but I am looking forward to branching out to other kits and eventually going kitless.

I have learned a lot from the wealth of information on this site. Thank you for sharing the plethora of information, it is appreciated. I am looking forward to learning more and talking to as many of you as I can.

Welcome to IAP from Central Texas. We like lots of pictures.

Ray

I don't have to many pictures of my pens here. Most are back in Texas on a hard drive. But here are a few.

Welcome from Alvin, Rick.
Nice pens - any problem getting blanks over there?

I have a hard time getting everything over here. I am still looking, but so far haven't found a place to get them local. I can order from a few places but some won't mail to an APO address. It's still do-able, just takes quite a bit longer to get supplies. I'm going to stock up on all I can when I come home on leave in August.

Rick, Welcome from BAF, afghanistan. Are you at Osan or the Kun? I was at Kunsa in 98/99 enjoyed my time there. I bet if you buy from the vendors here on the site they will take care of you the best they can. They have hooked me up since I have been deployed to Bagram. Slabs, Blanks and Boards is a great place for common wood blanks, Mr. Smith with Smitty's penworks is awesome, and is Ed from Exotic Blanks.

If you need anything let me know. I'll do what I can when I get home (who knows when that will be) but I'll help with what I can.

Stay Safe over there brother..

Thanks Mike. I'm actually at Yongsan, right smack dab in the middle of Seoul. Thanks for the info on the vendors. The biggest issue I am having is finding someone to ship accelerator over here. So far I have had no luck. I know I don't have to use it, but it sure does help with my patience issues. I can't say that I like it here in Korea but at least I'm not back in Iraq or Afghanistan (no one's trying to blow me up in here :)). I've been here for a year and have one more to go....then it's retirement for me. Again thanks for the vendor info, I will definately use it. Stay safe over there!

Yup Texas is the best place to live..... I was in SA from 95-98 stationed at Lackland Medina Anex. Living near the base was not a great experience. BUT, I did love the BX and Commasary at Fort Sam. We made that trip about once a month. It was close to home also, I'm from between Houston and Galveston. I grew up in Dickinson, and graduated from Texas City.

Welcome from Virginia. I was in Pusan Korea in the later 70's when I was on the USS Coral Sea and USS Kitty Hawk. Had great fun riding in Taxi at night there, the driver would turn off their lights when they went through an intersection.

Haha, not much has changed with the cab drivers. I had one go up on the sidewalk the other day to get around some traffic.

Yeah, we bought a house up in Selma, near Randolph AFB. I pretty much went to Ft Sam for work and that was about it. I like going to Randolph for the BX and commissary much better. I grew up in Montana so Texas, away from the SA area, is still new to me. Been to Houston a couple of times and out to Corpus but that's about it. I figure I'll have more time and freedom to travel around the state after I retire.

You should really make your way up to Wimberly, beautiful little town. All it is, is a town square with a bunch of little shops (well in 96/97 anyway) its on the back side of San Marcus.
