Hello all. I have just begun to turn pens and am glad there is a resource available like this forum. I have a south bend that I am using for this. I am using traditional metal turning tooling so far. I somehow managed to make three slimline pens so far. Attempted the ca finish on all of them and am not convinced it is the way to go for me.

I was interested in the look of the acrylics so I purchased a few blanks and found the holes were too large after drilling with the 7mm bit. So, I have done a few searches on here and found potentially the speed was too high.
Anyway, I thought I would introduce myself before I ask too many questions.

My name is Tim, I am in manufacturing, (flexo printing, plate mounter). I am mechanically inclined more towards machines, not very good with woodworking. So, this is a very interesting hobby which I hope to continue.
Tim

Hi Tim, and welcome from Westlake, OH. We're probably just 2 miles apart. I'm near the corner of Clague and Detroit. -- Jeff

Welcome Tim. Our next meeting of the Ohio Chapter of the IAP will be on December 7 at Hartville Hardware in Hartville Ohio. Many members from Columbus to Cleveland and beyond, I didn't forget Akron Magic Bob And Dale. Please join us and get to know your neighboring turners. We learn a lot, tell lies, show off our pens, and generally have a great time. Time is 2:30 PM. Hope to see you there.

I will try to make it Bob. Wow is this very addicting! Just completed my first acrylic. Looks beautiful, not perfect, but very exciting to see it from start to finish.
Tim
