Greetings,
I am a new lathe owner / penturner. I have just begun laying with my lathe and loving it so far. Hope to turn some better pieces as I go along!

Welcome from Georgia. This is the place to learn a lot about pen turning. Folks are helpful and willing to share both successes and learning experiences. Check out the library for some really great info on pens.

You are very fortunate to stumble on IAP so early in your "turning" career, I was turning pens for close to 15 years before I found this site, the progress I made in the last two years is more than the 15 combined. Knowledge sharing is a powerful thing and everyone here is willing to share their knowledge all you have to do is ask, and sometimes you don't even need to do that :)

Welcome to the group from Wichita Falls, Tx! Dont lay with that thing too long or the wife may get jealous and put a bed in your shop!

Another welcome from North Alabama, Athens. Someone has already suggested checking out the library. Also keep your eyes on the IAP chapter meetings. These are the ones where we get together and do hands on demos, and also turn some pens for our troops. Ours is the North Alabama, Tennessee Chapter.

Welcome Ben, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.

Welcome Ben, from Kansas!

PS I need to start "laying" with my lathe, I haven't tried that yet, but I don't know if the wife will approve! :)

I, too, was lucky to find this website early on in my turning "career", so enjoy!
