been lurking around for a while and thought i would join and say hello.
i live on Cape Cod and although i have not turned anything yet, im looking at doing some fishing lures and pens. im sure there will be many questions from me but for now back to searching the forums. take care, john.

You've found a great site for resources. Check out the library (link at the top of the page), lots of tutorials available there. And by all means, ask questions, we all started sometime.

Welcome John, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/library/general_reference/Getting_started_in_pen_turning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.

Just messing around, got my "shopping cart" at PennState to over $1600 in about ten minutes!! LOL, what am I getting into.....

John, not knocking PSI, but there are other places to buy your turning things. There are many vendors that are also members on this site. They will give you good service and prices. check around before making any major purchases. Ask questions, more specific the better, and any pictures will always help. PSI is where I started out and they have been fair with me, but I now check out others before making the purchase. Many things in anybody's starter kit are not needed. Check out the library here for beginning info.

Have not been out yet, too busy.. by the time I get in at night im just so tired. I have a lower back problem and just had a steroid shot a couple weeks ago, seems to be helpin for now. I hope to get out late summer/fall to try a get a couple!!
 
Being in Striped bass country you should be turning some LARGE Lures, Welcome from the Swamps of Tennessee, I'm a fugitive from Boston, being held against my will and wallet.
