New to turning pens hope to find a lot of good info here. i just got a used carbatech 6 inch lathe and a box of blanks and pen kits. i made one pen that came out nice ,but now my blanks keep cracking while drilling/trueing/and turning. do blanks get old?

Gene; We need a little more information. What wood are you using, how are you drilling your blanks and at what speed? What speed and tools are you using to turn the blanks? If the wood seems dry or punky, are you stableizing with CA glue? The more information you can give the members, the better they can answer your questions. Also look in the library for articles and videos of all aspects of pen turning. If it's not there go to You-Tube. Jim S

welcome to the group from Texas. Saturate those wood blanks in some thin CA and that should help to stabilize them a little better. Follow up with more CA as you turn the blanks down to the pen components diameters
 
Welcome, Gene.

I know I've seen a lot more cracking/wrinkling as I've gotten older, but that hasn't been an issue with my pen blanks.
