Hello
My name is Dan I'm from Hampton, VA and new to this sight. I had the chance to turn a pen at a woodworking show a few years ago and I think I would like to do some more. I'm hoping to get some good information about lathes, chisels and other equipment. I have done some turning in the past but got away from it, I did lot like the time it took to keep the chisels sharp but I see that the how have chisels that have replaceable cutters, those should make turning more enjoyable for me. I have to look around so see were to post my questions and I have a good number.

Dan, welcome to IAP from Georgia. You will find a great amount of information here. The library is a great source of information and many of our members sell related products at very reasonable prices. Carbide tipped turning tools are really great. The cutters last a long time and the fact that they don't need to be sharpened is a very nice feature.

Welcome from Ohio. From your name, I assume you make bandsaw boxes. I've made over 100 and love them. Lots of work though. Enjoy pens. They're addictive.

Welcome aboard Dan. Tina beat me to inviting you to HR Penturners. There are alot of us local guys that will be willing to show you hands on if you need some help. One thing--don't be afraid to ask..

Lots of warm welcomes and it seams there a good number of retired and former military folks around. walship17 from PRAN to zero not bad. Were you a ground pounder or flyer? When I was running PR Shops the I called the Aircrew "My Kids" (unknown to them). I had a lot of really good ones and a few who Thought They Had Weight that didn't work in my shop if the manual backed me up and even times there was no manual.
