I recently joined the IAP because when googling questions about turning I am consistently taken to pages in this forum.

I have made a few slimline pens and am really enjoying the start of this hobby. Both woof and acrylic. I am out of blanks at the moment.

I purchased a knockoff (tiawanees) shopsmith on craigslist for $75 in November. This was my Christmas present from my wife. I am very happy with my new tool and with the simple projects I have done. Of course learning a lot as I go and watch on YouTube.

I have been trying to find acrylic bottle stopper blanks, know any good cheap places?

After making a few things for homemade Christmas my family members have started playing orders for more bottle stoppers and seam rippers!

I live in Columbia heights, mn

Welcome from Texas.
I don't have any suggestions for cheap acrylic stopper blanks, but I stop at my local Woodcraft quite often and always look for 1.5" or 2" spindle blocks on sale & cut those up for stopper blanks.

a few items i have turned so far.

Even when it has recently been negative 20+ degrees outside I still work in my unheated shop in the detached garage. I have small heat lights I turn on near the electric motors to warm them up for 30 minutes first. I work for 30 -60 minutes then come inside for a warm drink to thaw out. I love being able to create a finished projecs(s) in 1 day!

Attached are some of the first products I have finished, each one gets nicer and nicer.

Welcome from Texas Ethan! Nice work on the pens.:good: If you are looking for cheap, you are probably going to find your best prices online and the shipping cost is small compared to the gas to drive to the nearest full price retailer.

For good and cheap, I buy everything through the artists and dealers here on IAP. They aren't cheap compared with some of the mass produced blanks, but you can get colors and designs that aren't available anywhere else. I am willing to pay for a blank that will sell my pens at a nice profit, quickly. It is the same amount of my labor, why not go for blanks that have some stopping power. Besides, when you order blanks from these guys, they throw in some nice freebees!:cool:

Keep it up!

Harry
