I live in Winnipeg and I was introduced to pen turning when one of my students brought in a pen kit from Lee Valley Tools to use as a project for the high school CNC course I was teaching. I have made many pens on a relatively small CNC machine but since retiring from teaching I have purchased a Rikon 70-050VS lathe and have continued my addiction manually!
I have made many styles of pens and while the Sierra is probably my favourite looking ballpoint, I really prefer thin pens because I don't find them as tiring to hold. I have made pens using brass, acrylic, corian, and many types of wood and I am still looking for the perfect (for me) pen.
My next stop is to post a picture in the Show Off Your Pens forum.
