My son has been turning pens for 12 years and after I retired I wanted to try to learn how to do this so during the Thanks Giving Holiday he came from Houston to South Alabama where I live to teach me. I told him to make a wish list for a beginner and I will order the items that he suggesed. He picked out all the items that he would order if he was starting all over again and told me some stuff he used was not needed or not any good or did not fit his methods of turning. I ordered ever think and about two hours latter he said come to your shop I am ready to teach you how to turn a pen. We started out with Wall Street Two style and regular wood. He did one, then we did one togeather then he left the room and left me there by myself so I cut a blank, drilled it turned it, sanded it and put it togeather. In a hour I took it to him and he said see I told you it was not that hard. Great hobby, the people love the pens and I am having a fund raiser with CCA a fishing club and a animal rescue center to get my pens in the hands of the public and help rasie money for them. Look forward to reading your posts and asking for your advice.

Welcome from Thunder Bay Ontario....up north in Canada. I am new as well to pen turning but it sounds like you have a good "consultant" in your son. Enjoy your hobby.

Tom:)

Welcome from sunny Florida. Turning pens is a great thing to be hooked on.
Some day I will use the other tools in my shop.
