Hello All,
Don't have a lathe yet, but have one ordered, never turned a pen before or anything else for that matter. I have ordered some basic supplies to get started, and been reading all I can to get educated. I have some basic woodworking experience from working on banjos, building some mountain banjos and a few banjo necks. Thought I would buy a cheap mini lathe and try some pen turning to see if it was for me or not? Would like to turn some pens, pencils, pepper mills, pill tubes and stoppers. Maybe if I can learn to use a lathe correctly I might buy a larger version to turn banjo rims. Right now I want to learn the basics of pen turning and see if I can get Christmas presents done early this year. Basic small shop here, small bench top drill press, belt/disk sander, band saw and grinder. I have much to learn and look forward to doing something for a hobby to get rid of stress and have fun without going broke. I would appreciate any help or comments from anyone.
Thanks for the great forum
Ronnie

Welcome from another newbie...in Georgia. Sounds like you have all you need to get started.

Thanks for the welcomes, and this site is great, a lot of information to learn from. I am busy trying to clean up the small shop, and get everything ready for the new lathe. Should be here Monday and I am sure that I will have questions once it gets here. Just hope that I can learn to turn and enjoy it as much as ya'll do. I have cut some blanks from left over projects and going to try to drill them this weekend and insert the pen tubes so I will have something ready to go.
