Heading to Branson, MO on Wednesday for a few days with the family. Just looking for any tips on places to go (on a budget) other than the usual like Silver Dollar City and Sheppard of the Hills.

Also if anyone is in the area that wants a visitor for a few minutes just shoot me an email and I will see about stopping by. Will be going through Springfield to get there.

Dustin,
Man, I'm leaving on vacation this week also so I will be out of pocket when you are in the area.
If you have never been to Grizzly, the showroom is at Battlefield & Kansas Expressway (hiway 13).

There is a new small Wood Gallery shop on 3014-B East Sunshine (right behind Burger King)about 3-4 blocks off of Highway 65. He sells a small amount of blanks and is a reseller for Hut Products.

Harbor Freight is at 3909 South Campbell.

OP Hardwoods is at 1908 E Chestnut Expressway. They have a good selection of exotic woods and burls. They let you go into the back and look around.

Of course if you have never been to the original Bass Pro Shop, that is at Sunshine and Campbell. That is worth seeing even if you don't hunt or fish! All of these are in Springfield.

Come back through in August and come to our IAP picnic on the 16th!

I don't know of any places in Branson other than the usual tourist places. For children, they tell me that Celebration City is worth the money.
Hope you have a great vacation.

We have been to Branson many times. My best advice for anyone considering going there is DON'T. I hate the place. The wall-to-wall people is exceeded only by the bumper-to-bumper cars. It can take a couple hours to move a block on the busy 'strip' (Hwy. 76). Absolutely insane. IMHO, that is not how to spend a vacation. However, it is that way because millions of people love it. Shows, hundreds of places to spend money on things you don't need and restaurants. If you (meaning your wife ;) ) are determined to go, stop at a tourist trap 'information' place outside the city and pick up a map showing the by-pass roads. Using those will get you places faster and save on the nerves. No one uses them, they are nearly empty. Seems folks like wasting time breathing exhaust fumes on the strip. [xx(] If you do go, the one show I can recommend is Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. Expensive but a lot of fun. Advice, if you go to Dolly's bring some wet hand wipes. Personally, I would re-read what edman2 wrote and go to Springfield.

Dustin,
Hope you do get to come to the picnic. It's gonna be a lot of fun!

Frank gave good advise about using the bypass roads to move around Branson. Lots quicker. Of course to get the full flavor of Branson in the summer you should drive down the strip just once in full traffic. Once will probably prove to be enough! :D[xx(]:D On the strip (Hiway 76)a little shopping center on the north side of the highway is Engler's Block. They have a wood carving sudio in there that is interesting. There are several craft malls also if you enjoy crafts.
Have fun!
