System Three Mirror Coat is designed for use on countertops and bartops. I understand it is formulated to cure without bubbles and, being an epoxy resin, may be tougher than PR. Has anyone one tried using Mirror Coat for casting pen blanks?

I used it several years ago and made many pens with it. It works, but still can have some bubbles due to dissolved air if used as a clear resin. With colors, not an issue. It is definitely not as hard as PR and will not finish to as high a gloss. Higher cost than PR, but like Alumilite does not have a significant odor.

I used a bar top epoxy when I was first coming up with the cactus blank. It worked but was quite soft and flexible. Like said above, it was expensive too.

i have used mirror coat a few times. it took forever to dry. it is more flexible that pr because it has to take the shock of dropped glasses and plates. the 2 main reasons that it has a long drying tome is that i needs to penetrate the wood and it has to have enough time to degas. in thin layers, it aleays turned out clear with no bubbles but when i tried to use thicker coats, i always got a bubble or 100. pr smells but is much more suited to making pens IMHO........bear
