Turkey season is next week and I was wondering if anybody has tried to cast turkey feathers. It would be a great gift for the hunter. I am sure that I will have plenty by this time next week.

I've never seen turkey feather pens but I bet it would be an awesome pen. Good luck with the gobblers, I hear they are a very wary bird. Do you turn your own turkey calls?

Don, the first feather pen I made was a turkey pen. I made it for my dad, who taught me to hunt. He loves it, but I thought it was a bit dark. I tried small feathers and smaller wing feathers. The body feathers came out dark and the smaller wing feathers are very stiff and hard to get on the tubes without pulling away. I will be doing more after having good success with the pheasant feathers and expect them to go well with turkey hunters but as for the average pen buyer, it lacks color. For some reason I cant find a picture of it.

I gave up, at least for now. I blackened tubes and tried gluing some feathers to them with modge podge but they wouldn't stick. Then I hear a few days ago about gluing them on black paper, so I tried that..can't get them to stick to paper either. It's the part near the bottom of the feather where the stem is thicker that is the part I can't get to stick, and as I try and glue these ##$%@#!!! on to something, the little hairy feather thingy's compress or get out of order, one or the other. I was going to go mad, so I ran out to the dumpster and made a deposit!
