A bit ironic, but I had 2 different people request copper resin pens last night.

Has anyone pulled off a solid copper color?

Copper's soft find a tube about the rite size and have at it. Heck they make pens out of aluminum and copper is a lot soft then that.

Also you could take copper wire a thin wire wrap it around the tube and cast it. It turns out nice like a coil I have done that. I have also done heavy gage copper wire wrapped around the tube sliver solder it to fill it some and turn it. That is a lot of work there is a tutorial on it somewhere.

Or just get some copper pigment load up the resin and mix your own blank. Be sure to paint the tube copper to help.

Just a few ideas
good luck

You could always go with casting some copper braiding and looks like this.

No no, I need copper colored resin, not copper or copper braid.

There are plenty of copper resin blanks out there. Yes it can be done if that is what you are asking and if you are looking for some just do a google search and you find woodcraft has some I also know Woodturningz has some. I do know a person who makes a great looking copper colored blank if interested I will get you the link.

I actually casted some the other day. I used pearlex pigment and used copper but any mica powder pigment should work good. The cast looked real good I casted some Cholla and enough left over for a solid cast for a Sierra. It sure looks like a nice metallic copper. A little goes a long way the powder by it's self can be a little translucent so maybe add just a little more but be careful you add too much pigment and will effect your cure and the hardness of the resin. I would go with just enough so when you pull your stir stick out of the mix you can just see the stick through the layer of resin on the stick. Then afterward paint your tube a bright copper before gluing it in. That should work real good. But it will have a metallic look probably not a real flat solid copper metal look but I think it would look better. When I get a chance I will post a photo of the one I did the other day.

good luck

There are other players out there other than Exotics!!!!!!!!!

Try Gina and Rick here. They are very nice people to do business with also. I don't think they get recognized here enough. You want copper check these out.

If they want more recognization tell them to join IAP. Nothing wrong with a little competition but you have to let people know who you are if want people to recognize ya. Me personally, I tend to support those who support IAP. I am not saying that they don't but I don't recall their name coming up before. Exotics is so well known because of the marketing genius that is running things.

Rob that is great and you do what you feel is right in your heart.

They are members here but have not participated much. The reasons I do not know but do know they have their own web site that is scrollsaw related and it takes some effort to run that. Their names have been mentioned here before. Now I have no affiliation with them just that I am a member on their site as well as here.

My point was there are other options other than Exotics. There, I am sure are members here that will be happy to cast blanks for anyone here. I see it all the time people asking and getting responses. Just my 2¢ am putting out there.

I withhold any other comment:)

Thanks for the link. I've never been there before. That's a great selection...:)

I simply mentioned where I got that specific blank. Nothing more.. People still have a free choice to purchase where and with whoever they please.

Mark I agree with you 100% I just threw it out there. If they are backordered I am sure Gina will get right on it for whoever wants anything. I know they just went through a horrible site crash so alot of time was spent trying to get things up and running and they just did this about a week ago.

I see John just showed another way to pull the copper look off. Nice going John.

I feel the same way as Rob. If an IAP vendor is offering the product i'm looking for, and the cost isn't a great difference, i'm going to support the hand that feeds us.

I do like the selection at glimmerznmore, so ill definetly keep them in mind for future items I can't get at one of our vendors!

Try Douglas and Sturgess, I use their stuff and am VERY happy with it. Their copper is OUTSTANDING!

They also have "tester sizes" for a couple bucks each if you don't need alot, a tester will do quite a few blanks.

Look under "Luster Pigments", they have every color you'll need.

Don't get the "Fluorescent" pigments, they don"t mix with PR.

where did you get the braid?

EBAY
Could you tell me what to search to find it and size?

Here you go. Good luck. Look forward to seeing some pens.
