A couple nights ago I did a cast of Orange (Orange dye yellow mica and Pearl Ex White) Polished Silver and Metallic White micas from www.tkb trading.com, Pearl-Ex White and white dye and finally Shimmer Blueberry Pop from TKB Trading, Pigments, Dyes and Mica

I poured in a 3x5 mold and 1 5" pvc pipe. The orange glopped out half way through the pour. So I KNOW my MEKP wasn't bad. An hour later the white, silver and orange solidified, but the shimmer blueberry pop was still pretty liquidy in both molds.

24 hours later and in sunlight for a few hours on an 80 degree day and the pipe cast finally cured. (Very rippled/bumpy)

I thought I may have forgotten to add MEKP to the shimmer blueberry pop.

Tonight, I mixed shimmer tangerine, shimmer blueberry pop and white and silver. I KNOW I added 8 drops per ounce (When I use an eye dropper I need to use 8 drops to get it to gel.) I went to check on the PVC pipes sitting in the direct setting sun on an 82 degree day. Same issues.

I'm now at the point of not using these powders again. But I wanted to see if anyone else used them with similarresults or no issues at all.

Here's the description from their site:

Our Shimmer Pop Micas are finished eye shadow products. They are "ready to wear".
Ingredients: Mica (77019), Titanium Dioxide (77891), Blue #1 (42090:1), Red #40 (16035:1), Ultramarines (77007), Tin Oxide (778161), Magnesium Myristate.
Cosmetic Grade.
USA approved for use: Eyes, Face, NOT Lips. EU approved for use: Lips, Eyes, Face.
Recommended for nail polish and Melt and Pour soap making.
Color will morph in Cold Process soap but retain a level of blueness.

Never used these people you indicated. I use pearl ex with success. woodenwhimsies sells the powders very reasonably as well and I have used those. You can also check out Coastal scents. They sell a variety of mica powders that I have used with success.

Everyday I'm vertical is a great day

Some mica colors will retard the setting process. I know the deeper blues from Coastal scents will do that.

I wondering if it's the magnesium myristate in the powder that is causing this.

This morning, 12 hours later, it's still very tacky and soft. I'll try to demold tonight. It's kind of a shame. The colors really pop and mix well. I'm glad I didn't place my order yet and drop $25 for an ounce of each of the six colors.

I have not experienced that with any of my purple or blue Pearl-Ex or micas from coastal or tkb. Although, I've never had blues or purples "glop" while pouring. Perhaps it's been the mixing of the silvers and golds that have had enough of a heat reaction to cure the blank.

Would adding more MEKP to the shimmer mica series help or would they just end up being more brittle in the end?

Coastal no longer sells cerulean blue. Peacock blue was a replacement for awhile at TKB. The only place I know of that has peacock blue is the conservatorie. But they only have the sample size.
