I'm trying to cast some blanks in Harley Davidson colors (orange and black). I looked around at Costal Scents and at the Pearl Ex pigments but didn't see any that was close to that orange. Does anyone know where I can find this color or have any suggestions on which specific tints and ratios will make that color? I played around with mixing various colors but I can't seem to come close.

Thanks!

you can try the cellini yellow and any of the reds from coastalscents. As far as ratio's definitely start with a majority of yellow and add small amounts of red until you're happy.

Miss Theresa and I have only been casting a couple months and have had great results with nail polish as a pigment. We found what I think is a nice 'Harley orange' at walmart for a couple dollars. Look for PEARL ICE brand HOT TAMALE. We cast this on top of a black pearl lower half with a white pearl-ex middle 'band' and had super results.

If you want to cast with Alumilite, I know that they have an orange dye. I don't know if it is exactly "Harley" orange, but the more drops you add, the more intense the color. However, a word of warning. There are some incompatabilities between resins and their dyes, so I wouldn't try Alumilite dye with PR or vice versa. Others on this site may know of certain compatabilities, but I have read and seen horror stories about mixing things that shouldn't be mixed.

I hope this helps.

I second OOP's comments about mixing things that shouldn't be mixed ... we're doing PR casting and sticking with benign mixtures.

I'm like Brooks, except I use Yellow and Red dye from casting craft. I put the yellow in and then add a drop at a a time of red, mixing well between drops until i get the orange im looking for. I add some diamond dust afterwards to give it a metal flake look. I use PR and have no clue on alumilite.

That's definitely the way to go (minus the diamond dust) if you're not wanting the pearly look.
