I had my foundation repaired today so I stayed home and turned pens while they worked. I was expecting the usual crew of unhappy people...boy was I wrong!

17 people singing and telling jokes, laughing all day long. We had 23 piers installed and 12 were inside the house meaning they had to punch holes in the existing foundation. At the end of the day, they were all still in the same frame of mind as when they got here. I would not wish this work on anyone but not only did they do the entire job in a day, they were pleasant to be around. I think that there is a lesson in there somewhere.

Legalization of marijuana?

That is the way my crew works too. As a builder, I am one of the only ones left around here who actually has a crew of carpenters who work for me by the hour, doing all my framing in-house. I have 4 guys and they have been with me for 12 years or so and they are real fun to be around. They are always singing, laughing, and cutting up all day long. They get a lot of work done and have fun while doing it. They love what they do and it shows in both their attitude and their work. BTW, none of them drink or smoke and they are all quite religious too.

It is great to have a job where you actually look forward to going into work each day.
As my friend Warren once said: "It's better to do what you like than to have to like what you do"! :)

I wonder what it is like to be able to go a job that you actually love. I have to force myself out to the car every day and find myself calling off frequently (using vacation time since you can't get more then one day off at a time.) I have tried to be positive about going to work but I would be willing to work for half what I am making if it were an enjoyable job.

Where I work I have started to wonder if I need to bring cheese every day to go with all that wine (whine). There is so much of an "us vs. them" mentality coming from stinky (rank) and file. The class warfare doo doo depresses me. I just look forward to finishing up some education endeavors I am gone even after 10 yrs!

Well at least you seem to have a positive outlook on your job.

Don't get me wrong, I try to keep out of the fray but sitting at a desk with 140 people around hearing the chatter, sometimes gets me down. Generally I like what I do though I don't want to do this forever. The work is kind of like the modern day version for factory work in that it is very repetitive, fine for some not me. The daily complaining about upper management makes the job grey.

Its tough when you work with people that do nothing but p**s and moan all day long. That was one of the big reasons I left my last job, that and one of my bosses from that job offered me a new job in his own business he had on the side. Now I manage a Christmas tree farm and work by my self about 80% of the time and love it. My boss also happens to be a good friend, which can be touchy at times but with us it works quite well. Year round salary pay with most of the winter to do what I want as its considered vacation down time.

13 years and counting this April and I don't plan on going anywhere.:cowboy:

I am pretty happy with my work now too. I won't be doing too much singing, but everyone around me says I seem a lot happier now.

Hey, we all bitch and moan about our jobs now and then, me too.
Mine takes me away from home a LOT and I missed my kids growing up and basically leave my wife as a single parent most of the time...

....but at least we have a job:wink:

My problem is that I really enjoy my job, different every day, good training, adequate pay, etc. Been there for just over 30 years, ( since I was 18 )

I sang at my job once and my manager hid my candy stash. She called first thing in the morning and I answered the phone and sang a song we sang in preschool. There was a long pause on the other end of the phone. When I got back to my desk my Costco sized jar of Jelly Bellies was gone And I was told that sugar was not a good breakfast food. True story.

BTW, good morning ,good morning, good morning it's time to rise and shine.......

Maybe you should have shared the jelly beans.
