Happy Purim. Time for Hamentashen (3 cornered cookies with filling) and 1 other food so that you can make 2 blessings. Also the only time of the year that the kids and everyone else in the synagague can be as noisy as possible when you hear the name Haman[xx(] (May his name be wiped out forever). Also you give to the poor.

Jeff - Thanks! I've seen (and had!) the cookies from COSTCO but didn't know they had a religious connection. I also see where "According to the Talmud, a person is required to drink until he cannot tell the difference between "cursed be Haman" and "blessed be Mordecai" so hope you tied one on for all of us []

I'm going to be tying one on tonight at my shul's Purim Seuda (Festive Meal). Although I never get drunk[]. I'll think of you guys when I'm drink my scotch (good single malts)[][][]. My Rabbi prefers Stoli Vanilla.

Happy belated Purim! As a seminary student studying to be an Episcopal priest someday I always enjoy your messages about your faith on here. Makes me feel much more knowedgable of other faiths which I personally feel is very important. You have a knack for making things easy to understand, keep up with the posts.

Happy belated Purim!! My friend from Israel e-mailed me yesterday and said she was dressed like a cowgirl....I asked but didn't get an answer yet....do they do costume parties too? (she is not religious, but follows Israeli tradition)[?]

You could almost say that Purim is one big costume party. But you could also say that Purim is the holiest day of the year. I know most Jews think Yom Kippur is, but Purim is. Yom Kippur (or Yom HaKippurim) means day like Purim. By this, I mean that on Yom Kippur, the Jews accepted the Torah out of fear and on Purim we accepted it out of love.
