I recently made this walnut coffee scoop. The only power tool I used was a jigsaw to cut the rough scoop out of the walnut board. For carving I used a #7/10mm Swiss Made Gouge, a Mora 120 straight knife and a Mora 162 Hook Knife. I sanded by hand and finished with mineral oil. I made a full tutorial for those who are interested.
Wood carving is a very relaxing hobby. I think it's making me a better wood turner also, because I'm slowing down to understand how the tools work with grain direction. I've also got a better understanding of bevel support. You also get a better sense of different woods' properties.
