Grizzly G0657 10x16vs Lathe
I have no affiliation or relatives in ths company. This is my 3rd lathe I went to the showroom just "browsing", in town for a show. In the clearance section a display model was on clearance. Reguar price $375, clearance $310. 90 day warranty on motor only on clearance items.
Stated specs per Grizzly:
Features: Motor: 1/2 HP, 110V, single-phase, Swing over bed: 10", Distance between centers: 16", Swing over tool rest: 7", Heavy-duty, precision-ground cast iron bed,Three variable speed ranges: Low: 300-900, Mid: 600-1800, High: 1200-3600 RPM, 1" x 8 TPI RH headstock spindle, MT #2 spindle and tailstock tapers, 2-1/4" tailstock barrel travel, Switch has removable safety key, Includes live center, spur center, 3" face plate and knockout bar, Approximate shipping weight: 90 lbs
Compared to my Jet 10x14vs, I believe this lathe may be even sturdier. Possibly because of it's 79 lbs.
No assembly required, nor adjustment. Centers were perfectly aligned. The readout is slightly off by approx 50 rpm fast. Adjusting the belt for the three speed ranges is standard, enough room to perform the task. Tailstock and toolrest locks are great. I have not had to retighten them during use. Quill travel is the easiest I've owned. Spins almost without effort.
The first item I have turned on this is a segmented bowl. It will bog if your tool catches but does not speed away as much as the Jet.
Objective opinion is this a very good lathe for the price. Longer bed length, heavier, LED rpm readout. Priced at $375 is a great price.
Subjectively, I'm glad I bought this lathe.
