I've worked as an Ombudsman in D.C. for the Federal government for over 30 years, and I live in the Northern Virginia suburbs. I started turning pens more than 20 years ago. But I have been less active in doing so in more recent years. I became eligible to retire about a year ago. And my children are now adults. So I decided to resume some of the hobbies that got pushed off of my schedule by the hustle and bustle of my career and raising a family. One of my other hobbies is photography, and I have been using some of my photographs to produce greeting and note cards. So my plan is to turn pens to write with, and print note cards to write on. If this results in being able to sell what I make and augmenting my retirement income, then that would be great. If not, then I'll be doing it just for the enjoyment. And I'll give away what I make to friends and family.
In addition to wood turning and photography, my other hobbies include riding (almost every day) and collecting different kinds of bicycles (http://dcbikeblogger.wordpress.com/my-bikes/), writing a blog (http://dcbikeblogger.wordpress.com/), bike touring, trail hiking, Chinese cooking, and flying single and multi-line kites.
