Hi Folks,

I'm not even a newbee yet, just interested and doing my research on what looks like an interesting hobby. I plan to take a class or two and see if this is for me. I've read some of the posts; pen making looks pretty addictive to me! This looks like a good website with a lot of helpful people.

Best regards,

Welcome

Welcome from a fellow Okie. Two things, first where in Oklahoma and Strawboss is a good IAP handle but do you have a name:biggrin:

Welcome! I have been turning pens for just 2 years as a hobby (400 pens to date) and have had a ball. 2things you need to know: 1) this is not an inexpensive hobby but it is very valuable! And 2). This site is amazing! Your questions will receive responses from those that have already failed and then succeeded over and over.

I should probably add a 3rd note - this is truly addictive! :)

Welcome, you have come to the right place. I have been turning for a year and learned almost everything I know from this sight.

Let the fun begin!

Hey, Bill! I'm originally from Norman. Good to meet you! Welcome to the hobby.

You can probably skip the classes. Pen turning is easier than you think! If you can make a simple cut on a saw and drill a hole, then you're pretty much there. I think the lathe is actually the easy part! I'm sure a nearby turner would be happy to give you a demo, and let you turn a few if you don't have the tools yet. In the meantime, check out the library and ask any questions you might have.
