Greetings from North Pole, Alaska

I have dabbled in woodworking since a kid, but recently decided to try pen turning about two months ago. My goal is to focus on using local wood as much as possible (birch, spruce, cherry, tamarack, etc.). I look forward to learning how to get better and would appreciate any tips or advice!

We think it's cold here in Albuquerque, but the low this winter where I am has only been 6 above. Nothing like Alaska!

Thanks, Mike. The wood is tamarack on which I used a dark stain.

Welcome Wayne. And you should be able to sell native wood pens in your area to the tourist that go though there. I was one (a tourist) passing through in'06. Our 8 year old grandson was with us then. Even though he is an adult now, he still talks about North Pole, Alaska.

It has been a while (10-15 years) but I passed through North Pole, AK a number of times on my way to and from Ft. Greely where we were doing some work. Beautiful drive. I have to say, the weather out there in February isn't my favorite though...
