Just wanted to introduce myself as say that I am looking forward to the information that I will learn on here from more experienced turners. Turned my first pen this weekend and then 9 more! The hardest part I am finding is a wood source. Everything around me is pine and the local places don't carry any hardwood. Nearest source is a 4 hour round trip drive for common hardwoods.

Welcome to IAP from Texas! Please add some info to your profile so you can make new friends here. Someone might send you some wood! :) Also subscribe to the forum for the chapter that is closest to you. You may have a fellow member in the same town.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes. I cannot believe some of the pens you guys turn! I can only hope to have one that is 1/10 as nice as some of those!!

Welcome from Texas.
Be sure to check out ebay - you can sometimes find some nice variety packs of pen blanks quite cheap.

Surprisingly, the internet is teeming with sources: Woodcraft, Penn State, Bear Tooth Woods, just to name a few. Plus, several members make their own products- some of which are the ones you would find in the stores... Use the forums! Chances are someone has had the same question, so you can search by keyword, or post a question yourself.

Cheers

Pretty much anything I get anymore is shipped due to travel time, expense, and in-store inventory.
