I let my mom and her ex husband have some scrap metal out of my garage, I asked her to say out of the pen turning part of the shop, She said that she picked up some shavings and scrap out of the pen shop (arg.....), And upon going into the shop, one of the "Scraps" she picked up was the tool rest for my lathe...

I have no one to blame but myself for this.....

So I'm down for awhile, I hope that I can still find a tool rest. As Ryobi lathes are kinda scarce,

But on the plus side, at least my garage is clean and scrap metal free..

Rule #1: NOBODY goes into the shop without me. NOBODY. Even my wife fears to cross the threshold.

My wife also is afraid for her life to enter into the sanctum of my shop, but maybe not for the same reason as yours, she's afraid of tripping over something or breaking a leg,.

I started on the Ryobi mini - if I recall, the tool rest post was 5/8" diam. -- it should be the same size diameter as other common minis (Jet, Delta, etc.). Verify by measuring the hole size in the banjo. You can order a replacement tool rest or aftermarket rest from the many suppliers out there (Woodcraft, CS USA, Penn State, Packard, Robust, BestWood Tools, Lee Valley, etc.).

I'd say your lathe is pretty much toast. Time to upgrade to a newer and larger lathe and send your mom and her ex husband the bill. Oh and never ever let anyone in the shop without you there as well, learned that the hard way after having to replace numerous tools.

Yeah, we all THINK the other half stays out of the shop. Then, one day, she needs something that you declare is "Not in the shop" and she "corrects" you by pointing out there is one, under that box that is on top of the shelf, where the light is real dim.

I guess it was "women's intuition" since she stays OUT of the shop!!

I ordered a rest from Toolpartsdirect here earlier today, I'm just wanting to start turning again, starting to have the shakes going cold turkey here...

And my daugher's mom is wanting a pen made for herself. I got the kit selected & the blank glued up and ready for turning,

Just waitin'....
