Google Maps?

Two funny stories about Google maps.

The street view has a great view of my black lab making sure the camera truck doesn't mess with his house.

And friends viewing the arial view stated, "See you finally cleaned your pool out after Katrina." (Our house got 6', the pool was a swamp. I was afraid we'd find a carcass or equivilent when we cleaned it out.)

Talked to someone tonight who is coming to pick up some tires, he pointed
me to google maps so we could see a location to meet.
I never knew it could be viewed at the street level .. the point of view
looks as if you're standing in the middle of the street! And you can zoom
and pan at pretty much eye level.

Checked out a few addresses, including my work shop. And there, waiting
at a stop light .. was ME! Sitting in my car!!

Damn.

Good thing I don't (usually) pick my nose at red lights..

Really???!!!! If this is true, how the heck did you not notice the google camera car?? It got a pole that sticks up a couple feet above the car with a camera blob on top.

ok, admit it ... how many of you are busy in another browser window
looking up your own house now?
(or looking in the neighbor's windows?)

OK.. and if you want another fun view.. Instead of google, go to maps.bing.com

put in an address then choose ariel->birdseye view... Instead of satellite images, they are airplane taken and you can rotate around to look from above from all sides!

LOL Charlie..you have to learn to duck when to Google camera comes by. (DAMHIKT!)
You can learn more about it here.

But what is really cool is some of the foreign countries that you can visit (or revisit) cyberly. Including walk thoroughs to many historical sites like ancient [URL="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=pompeii,+italy+ruins&sll=40.716428,14.537315&sspn=0.061672,0.132351&ie=UTF8&hq=pompeii,+italy+ruins&hnear=&t=h&layer=c&cbll=40.748817,14.4853&panoid=jPnyYJYYqOUOWRZ8rAUSfA&ll=40.748789,14.485189&spn=0.002203,0.005681&z=18&cbp=12,95.32,,0,-2.22"]Pompeii [/URL]or Stonehenge.

...

I find that it can be helpful when I'm heading to someplace in an area that I'm not familiar with. I bring up the address on google maps and then "drive" back out from there and note some of the landmarks. It's not that I wouldn't get there with just an address , but it makes it easier sometimes.

PS. I just checked my address again, and found that they came through the area once more; this time they added the lane at the rear of the house.
