My trip to Georgia went very very well. They offered, and I have accepted the job of being a supervisor for a brand new alternative fuels power plant in Conyers, Ga.
This is a huge huge decision for me. I have been at the company I am with now for 17 years. I have a pretty good job now, so why in the world would I want to move on? The biggest reason is Barack scares me. He scares the entire coal burning industry. (Not trying to be political, just stating an industry fact). As it stands, the forecast for power costs is astronomical if the Cap and Trade carbon legislation gets passed. I am fearful that the smaller, older coal burning plants will not be able to afford the technology (that currently doesn't exist) to capture that carbon. So, I have chosen to be proactive in my career.
This new facility is not even online yet. I have the opportunity to get in there now and actually get my handprint on the plant.

I am really happy to be getting back South, I grew up in SW Florida, and I frankly hate the Indiana winter. I know, they got a wee touch of snow there yesterday, I can handle that. It is freakin' -4° outside up here! No Mas! Once I find housing (hopefully with an area to set up shop in), I can finally get turning again. Right now, I miss several months a year to the cold.
I don't know anyone in the area, so if anyone has any input about Conyers/Covington area I would be grateful. At some point, I will get brave and venture into Atlanta, but that may take me a couple months to find the time.
Anyone want to buy a house in the country?

Welcome to GA. We did get a bit of snow yesterday, but hat only happens every 3-4 years. I'm on the other side of Atlanta, but I'm sure there are a number of folks on this board in the conyers area. You'll find yourself in atlanta much quicker than you think. Many folks have forgotten that atlanta is an actual city with city limits. Many folks think atlanta extends from Douglasville to Athens.

When are you moving to town. There's a southeastern chapter meetin at the end of March and the end of June. You should check out one of those. There alot of fun, and ther were 35+ people at the last one.

Welcome Back South! We will get the whole accent thing for you fixed in a few months, dont you worry now ya hear! I live in Covington, but grew up Conyers. We have several folks that hail from Conyers, and a few out where I am in Covington. Let me know when you are in town, maybe I can buy you some good ole southern style lunch and we can talk about all of the opportunities around here for turning and pens.

One date to note, if you are in town on March 21st, we will have the Southeast Chapter meeting. Also the big pen show is in town, so most of us will be heading over that way as well to look at all the pretty shiny (expensive) pens and talk to some of the folks that design and manufacture them.

Anyway, welcome back south, although this weekend you would have thought you were back in Indy, we had 5 inches of snow out in Covington...LOL...but it is going to be 75 degrees on Thursday, so if you dont like the weather around here, just give it a few hours, and it will be different this time of year. Email or IM me and I will give you my contact information.

Welcome to the south! Many moons ago, I left Chicago and moved to Columbia SC. So I have a feel for your transition.

Wecome to Conyers! It's a nice place to live even if the traffic gets a bit backed up on the weekends (especially for a small town). There are some very nice places to live in or around Conyers with lots of houses to choose from. Hopefully you'll join the SE chapter and meet some of the other folks.

Thanks for the well wishes, I appreciate it!

I start at Pratt on March 23rd, so I plan on being down there either the 20th or 21st. I will definitely try to make the meeting if at all possible. I will also send a PM to you locals down around my new home soon. Love to get together with people, although it may take a bit before I am set up to turn anything.
