I need a good source for bearings for my Jet 1236. Checked the local auto supply this evening but they were no help.

Try an industrial bearing supplier, not automotive parts. Kind of depends on the size of your nearest city, but there are a couple of them in my town. The replacement number is in your manual or on the side of the bearing.
Did a little Google work and found a manual for your lathe. Then Googled one of the bearings numbers and this place popped up. No idea if they are good, but just an idea.

I have bought from VXB before for my sawmill. There prices were fine. Another place to look is flea bay. You can usually buy lots of 10 or so for a good price. The ones I have bought for my bandsaw there were the same brand as what was on my saw from the factory.

VXB through eBay or if their shipping is too high, I think I may have ordered a ton of bearings through a company called bearing brokers in Chicago. I hope that's correct lol.

Also, check a website for BDI (bearing distributors Inc) to see if they have a location near you. I generally get any and all common size bearings for less than $5 each. Got them there for my motorcycle, Unisaw, grizz lathe, jet lathe, and grizz bandsaw. Even got bearings for my williams and hussey molder for $25+ less per bearing than W&H wanted.
