I spent a couple hours on the course before work this morning, without my clubs this time. Instead of a cart and clubs I took a trailer and my chainsaw  Makes a guy happy to spend a little time to get to know a head grounds keeper.

I persuaded him to let me "help" him last week and today was the day. I helped him dispose of two small and one medium trees and 2 large stumps. All of the trees were Box Elder and all of them had burls, I only kept about 40% of the wood due to the fact my trailer was full and I have more to cut tomorrow.

I know the rule ... no pics didn't happen, but they will have to wait until I get home to download the phone camera. Nest load I will take pics of the stand of trees I am healping to thin out, and hopefully be aquiring over time.

God I love free wood. :)

I am jealous. I feel like I have to pull teeth around my town just to get some non burl wood. I even make the person something out of each piece.

Well it was day 2 on the course today, I cut up two loads of Box Elder. The first load was logs about 4' long and 8 - 12" in dia., just enough to fill a pickup truck with an 8' box. I forgot to get a pic before the truck left, there was not a lot of burl but it all had some red streaking, not much but some.

The second load was mine, 3 more burl stumps and a few of the logs.

When I got home I anchorsealed the ends and then started on yesterdays load. I played with my electric chainsaw and bandsaw for a couple hours giving me a few pen blanks, slabs, bowl blanks and offcuts.

The variance in color, grain, eyes and everything else was surprising, I had some of the pen blanks look great with bright red but they will have to be stabilized due tho the state of decay. I tried to get a good pic but we had some 30 mph winds so I had to keep the garage door closed.

I have two more pieces ready to go with the hope of having a couple more hours to cut things up tomorrow. I will have to make a dump run to empty the waste can that is full of all the extra bits and pieces as well and the bulk to the logs that were too far gone to be of use, at least I salvaged some of it.

If I have enough time I will try and cut the other 2/3 of the load from the first day. I now have the fun of finding a place to store it all.
