Has anyone ever tried to mix gold leaf in PR? I'm just wondering if there are any tips/tricks to doing this...or if it is even a good idea to attempt.

One of the members makes them and sells them through exotics. Go habe a look at the result there and do a search on it here and you should find a couple threads showing some pens.

Here are a set I made for a cigar pen, I just mixed it in the pr, I had no air bubbles.

We do it and have had a lot of success with it. I take a chef's knife and chop it up, much the way you would chop fresh herbs. Then we slightly color the resin (we like white mica pearl, a lot)

We thin the resin in the ultra sonic cleaner, but add the chopped gold leaf directly to the mold as we pour. This is one of the few PR blanks that we also use the pressure pot.

If you choose not to chop the gold leaf, it IS a prettier blank, but the odds of chipping out are much greater. Chip outs repair and look just fine when filled with thick CA.

I hope this helps.

Been doing it for a few years I call them my "Florentine Pens" they sell well here are a couple; Gold and copper foils with a baroque guilders art finish then cast.

Thanks for all the feedback, I'm going for the look of Mike's blank but the other pics were amazing too. I'm going to start with a bottle stopper...wish me luck :)
