I recently posted this thread (wood species and their characteristics)
however, I would like to let you all know that I am going to have a back surgery on Jul. 14Th at 8:00 am and if everything goes the way we discussed with the surgeon I should go home the same day, but have to take it easy for at least two weeks before doing anything usual. I didn't want to warn anyone for about my condition but this was one of the reason I didn't want to take on turning yet 'til I get my condition under control.
I would like to ask members that if and when you get chance, please contribute to that thread and as soon as I can get behind the comp. and can type away I will resume with that project and try to have something up soon that we all can use. I also would like for you all to add a section on Kits, if you may. I have noticed that many of you reported dissatisfaction with some kits or some dealers that are selling some inferior quality kits. for some of us (that seems to increase by days in numbers), who have not acquired kits are very important not to fall into this trap to buy those kits. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Please, do not bash the dealer ,as for I am not here to do that since the experiences of the members are countless, however, let us know if certain kits are not worth the money to spend on or just plain hassle to deal with.
Thank you all in advance.

Been there, done that (twice), but never in and out in a day. Good luck and remember, just when you think you feel good enough to resume regular duties, DON'T. Wait another couple weeks.

Tim, I am sorry to hear that. Before I committed to this surgeon I consulted three other ones and they were talking about very major invasive surgery involving getting rid of the disk and fusing the L5 and S1 together and putting abridge and a plate and screws in. Since I am therapist and have had patients that came to me with those problems in the past I investigated it further and found this Dr. who is well known and he has operated on many other Dr.s in town and two of my friends. His approach is Microsurgery of the spine and he only goes in within a 1.5" incision and works through a microscope and his work is considered non invasive. Anyways, he is not going to get rid of the disk and only shave off a little from the vertebra's bone where it is pushing on the Sciatic nerve and then make sure there are no other pressures on that nerve. So, he has had very good successes with it . i am just praying that his job goes well and can give my life back to me w/o that darn pain. There is another group that does laser correction, in Fl,and AZ ,but those guys charge at least $17,000 out of pocket that you have to fork out of your pocket for their facility use, which insurance companies don't cover that, but it seems that their work is promising. I opted to this one since i am on an HMO plan that restricts where you get the treatment.
sorry, didn't mean to write a book, but I know many here have back problems. If you need any more info. Plz Pm me. I'll be glad to help with it.

Take care Phillip and listen to the Dr. I have had two surguries on that same spot. The first, I waited too long to have it, but went home 4 hours after surgery. Pretty good results for 5 years. No more horse training after that one. Then I blew the same disc remodeling my daughter's house. Surgery two weeks later. Stayed over night this time. Great results. Advised not to lift heavy objects. Listened to the doctor this time and its been 4 painfree years. When I over do it, I know it. It ill be a fusion the next time.
Again - good luck and listen to the doctor.

Larry, thank you I make sure and listen to the Dr.. I think I had this problem long time ago and finally it caught up with me when I fell off the step ladder on Dec. 2007, After that it's down hill until now. But I think my days of feeling like Hercules is over, I have to leave it to the younger guys with bigger b....., I know I don't have it any more. I think some wise guy was wise enough not to write any book as how to get old gracefully. I think he wanted all of us to pay the price like he did.:biggrin: Well, as long as I stay alive and pay my Taxes I think every one would be happy, huh!:beat-up:

Phillip,

Good luck on your surgery, I had a microdiscectomy done on July 7, I was at the hospital at 0800, into surgery about 1000 and back home by 1600.
As soon as I woke up I could not believe that thate was no more leg pain.
The pain returned some the next day and I was consurned that it was all for not. Today I have started to feel better again. It's not instant but it does work.
Good luck. I get my driving privilages back this thursday.

Remember NO (B) bending (L) lifting (T) twisting

Tom, Thank you, mine is going to be the same, Microsurgery. he said I shouldn't be in the hospital that long and they called it in to the insurance company as an outpatient. So, we'll see, but I tell you since last week or so I have been in lots of pain due to the tropical storm and atmospheric pressure change in and around Tx. I am looking forward to feeling no pain for a change.
BTW, you got me all excited :bananen_smilies051: about the BLT and I was thinking maybe steaks instead until I read in details :crying:. I think honey-do list have to wait until its 5 miles long this time.:biggrin:

OK guys this is it, I'm going to clean up. They said I could not smell pretty, so I am going like the day I was born. Thanks for all of you nice folks kind wishes. You all have fun and make more pretty pens.

I wasn't aware of this thread until just now, and I only can say that I hope your surgery works for you, living with pain (any pain) is no easy task...!

I should know, I'm on a twice a day dosage of Opium based medication as morphine doesn't work for me any more as a pain killer...!:frown:

I was offered major surgery (spine) long time ago with a 50%-50% odds to come out of it alive, moveability reduce to 70% (close to what I was then and now) and continuation of pain killers intake for the rest of my days so, I opted to save me the extra pain and money and leave it alone, after all were no benefits within the 50% chance I has given so, I'm glad that I made that decision, at least I'm still here to annoy people, cut woods, and make lots of saw-dust...!

Good luck with it...!

PS: You could have made "things" a little easier for yourself, if you had let us all know of your situation, things (your intentions/ways of behaviour) within this forum, would make a lot more sense to everyone, including myself...!

Oh, well...better later than never...!

Cheers
George
