salad%20bowls.jpg

I was told that I had to make some salad bowls for x-mas. I am now half way there. She also told me to go big or go home. I have included a bottle stopper for size. The left is spalted oak, and the right is spalted hackberry.

There is a small problem with this size bowls, I clipped the edge of the bowl while trying to switch off the lathe. I now have a cut on 2 of my fingers. 1 is deep enough that I should have had it stitched. But the e-room was 5 hours tonight. I am able to do most e-room work here. Lots of medic's in the neighborhood. Sry about the typing, running 2 fingers short.

once it is dry, the spalting stops. Once you put a finish on, you seporate the wood from the food. I have been using one for yrs and no problem. Will type more when I have both hands

The one on the left was the one that bit me. It is 22 X 6 and I was having acid reflux. Twice I has said I should stop and take a rolaids before going on so I don't get hurt. Well I should have listened earlier... The cuts are across the back of my fingers but they are starting to work today. The only reason there is no blood on the bowl, is I turned off the 1/2" red ring around the top of the bowl. (I tried to pass it off as bloodwood, but swmbo would not hear of it. [:D]

Great Looking bowls.....another testament to listening to what our bodies are trying to tell us. Glad your getting better.
