Can anyone tell me who does the glass etching. I've seen it done on here before. I want to do a pen with the glass top display box and I'd like to have an enscription on it.

Another option.... If this is one off and you already have or are making the box... You're other option is to check around at Hallmark stores. Several of them now do laser engraving in store.

I had Ken Nelson of Kallenshaan Woods do a glass engraving for me. Turned out perfect! If I every need something engraved again, I'm going back to Ken. Get service, price, and turn around time!

I've wanted to try the etching, but I can't seem to find decent prices for the
resist and lights. They get a fortune for the lights..

??? If your willing to do it "by hand" and not laser, this confuses me. I thought there was a lot of easy to use glass etching stuff. I know my brother used something to etch an image onto a glass curio cabinet with no special hardware.

Just semantics. Yes you can etch or "scribe" the glass by hand (with a diamond tool). There also is an acid etching and more commonly acid etching cream. (I believe that Charlie is referring to a photo resist etch which requires a special lighting set up and resist.) Then there are also various types of blasting and carving.... and of course the laser etching.

All of these do essentially the same thing, abrade the surface of the glass. But the look of the finished product can vary quite a bit...

Yep.. Dawn hit it. photo resist and acid etching. The setup isn't that much different
than silk screening, from what I understand, but the exposure unit isn't cheap.

I've seen some great looking etched glass using that technique, grayscale photos
and such
