I know most won't care, but I'm finished with pens. I may do a special request on occasion, but I won't be making them any longer. I feel that I have taken the art as far as I care to go and just don't have the desire to continue. I will no longer be casting either. I have informed my customers of my decision and have pointed them towards some of the fine folks on here for future needs.
I might return to flatwork and maybe some beadwork when things get better.
I'm not sure how often I will make it back here, so thanks to all those that have made my time here memorable.

Actually, I think you'll find that there are several folks here that will be sorry to see you go. Every person that adds to IAP is valuable and will be missed. That being said, you have to do what is best for you. I hope that you end up just taking a break for a while and then do the occasional pen as the urge strikes you. Good luck and don't be a stranger here on IAP, even if you're not into penmaking for now.

I agree, it is the many people that make IAP so good. I have enjoyed your posts and looking at your work. Enjoy whatever you do and continue to have some type of outlet for yourself.

I find that the more you use this site, the more you realize how many pen turners there are. And then when, at shows, many people tell you about their relatives that also turn pens. And then you see some amazing work by guys like Skiprat that make you feel really inferior. But:
Pen turners are a very small percentage of the population
Writing is not a dying art
Don't forget the CONTACTS you make, not the sales
The excitement of travel
New sites
New friends
Trading for other craftsman's work
Sometimes freebies.

Don't quit.

James,

Personally, I have enjoyed your presence here. Hope you choose to participate from time to time.

More important, I hope your life is treating you well. Take some time to "iron out" the wrinkles of the past year, stop by and read, if you like. At least take away the "humor for the day".

We all have experienced "a bad year" in life. You will recover as long as you keep your eye on the donut!!!

Send me your address, I'll send you a dozen donuts, WITHOUT holes!!!!!

Good luck, hope to see you!

Im sorry to hear you are ready to give up, when someone like myself is just getting going. People like myself need people like you to give us more idea's to turn pens and gain more knowledge from people like you Dozermite !!!
PS. Do you have a pressure pot you might be selling??? Or center drill vise for sale?

I'm actually a bit concerned about the number of members of the forum packing it in, I hope this is not a harbinger of things to come, I too will miss your posts and do hope you continue to stop in when you can, I'm not sure whether it was the passing of your father in law, or what ever the reason is, that you are quitting penturning. But don't forget that it's folks like you that have helped a lot of us learn and have helped make the IAP the forum that it is.

Well, I want you to know I understand how you feel. Take the time you need, do what you need to do and find something you don't need to do . . . like checking in once in a awhile.

I've enjoyed your posts and you work. And I'll miss seeing you here. Best Wishes.

Been there myself, and still am. Haven't turned a pen for a couple of years now. Well, maybe one or two, but outside of some special project, I have not much desire to turn. Most of it is life is full. Hang in there, stick your nose in our business once and a while. Most of all, good luck in what ever you are going to do, and have fun.

We all get burned out from time to time. I hope you do not "give up" on anything, just decide on the when's and the where's thats all. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I totally understand your feelings in this matter . I sometimes wonder how far I will go in this myself . I wish you the best in the future .
