Nothing to do with pen turning but my wife took this picture of our dog Jade. I thought the way the eyes glowed was pretty cool so I thought I would share. One of our rescue animals. Boxer with maybe a little pit bull thrown in.

Nice dog we just got a puppy and are trying to figure out how to get him potty trained I want to do it the right way with positive reinforcement but so far its not going very well.

Rob,

Boxers are awesome dogs. Unfotunately, we had to take ours to a boxer rescue. She kept starting fights with our two dobermans. Glad to hear you got Jade from a rescue!!!

Thank you all for the comments. Most of my animals are rescues and if I could afford it I would rescue more.

I am also a big supporter of the prison dog training programs that are out there. All of the dogs that our inmates train are rescues. Each dog goes through a 6-8 week program where they are leash and kennel trained as well as taught basic commands. Then they are put up for adoption. They even train dogs for people in wheelchairs.

I like Pit's, wish they hadn't got such a bad rap from bad owners....

Our neighbor has a pit that may have some mastiff in him... he's pretty solid and doesn't have a real pit face... he had a very bad rep in the neighborhood... he's killed a couple of dogs and a few cats... but his owner tried to keep him up as much as possible... he really liked his dog...

'igger is about 9 years old and my neighbor was killed recently, so his wife was to take care of the dog... but she evidently doesn't as he has decided our front porch is much more pleasant place to live than home....

he's turned into a really sweet dog... he's so fat he looks more like a pig than a dog... he grunts and snorts when my wife feeds him and he sleeps on the wicker sofa we have on the front porch... he likes the cushion and my wife put an old blanket over the cushion so he won't be so cold....

our dog a terrier/mix female -also a rescue - she was just dropped on the side of the road and picked up by a friend - won't sleep in the house because she would rather be outside with him. Even when it's been 26 degrees outside....

only down side I see is the neighbor gave him a politically incorrect name.... we have substituted a D for the first letter of his name.

The glow in the eyes is the light from your flash reflecting back... our cats often have yellow or red eyes glowing back at us.... he is a beautiful dog.

Len, just get Jen to use the same method she use to house break you! Oops, I missed the positive reinforcement remark.:biggrin::biggrin:

Rob, that is a beautiful dog. We are rescuers as well. My wife's new mini pin was found in a dumpster in the Bronx after a puppy mill discarded her. Three of our four cats were rescues, and I guess the fourth was as well since the owner told my daughter if she didn't take the kitten she was going to the animal shelter the next day.

Now, if you want some weird eyes, check out the Catahoula Cur, also known as the Catahoula Leopard dog or the Catahoula Hog dog. They are the official state dog of Louisiana, and the ones with "glass" eyes are spooky looking. Here are a couple of pix. The second one is too small to adequately show the eyes, but it is more the "standard" coloring of this dog.

Rob, I didn't mean to intrude on your thread; I just wanted to share more dogs!

All of our animals are rescue. Two dogs-1 half Rotweiller half Shepard; 1 half Daschund and half Australian Shepherd; two birds 1 yellow love bird and 1 grey cockatiel. I agree with Rob, if I had more space and money I would have many more, if it were up to my daughters there would be at least 6 more.

Nice looking dog.
I agree with the more pit then boxer but it is alot easier to say boxer because of the pit rep. We were going to rescue a pit that had to be the most relaxed dog I have ever been around. She was so calm and easy going. My fiancee made a comment to the prez of the association we are living in about getting a pit rescue and he said that he had to bring it up with the board and talk to the lawyers. HUH. Really.. How about the Chow Chow and Rotty that are in the association. Pits are among my favorate dogs. My last dag was a pit/boston terrier mix that had been beaten and had big infections and a broken hip. She was 20 min away from being put down when I had to make up my mind. With all the surgery she was going to need now one wanted to take her. 11 years later she is a very happy fat dog.
My fiancee and I just picked out a dog from a litter and will picking her up in 2 weeks. Bassett Hound had one when I was younger and my fiancee wanted a "nice dog" for her first dog. We had planned on getting a Greyhound rescue and probably still get 1 or a couple once we have a house.
