I have been collecting everything needed to cast over time. I am close to being able to start my first project. I want to see what I might still need or where to get it. I have a Pressure Pot and its setup. Never tested it though. I guess I need to see if it holds air. I have 1 set of those silicone purple molds. I started a shelf for the inside of the Pot but its not 100% done. I just ordered some material to wrap around the tubes. I need something to plug the tubes and something to hold them off the bottom of the mold. I want to use Simlar41. What else would I need ?

thanks

Dave

Sounds like you have it all in order, its just a matter of getting the rest of the supplies on your list.

I am at about the same stage as you, only I am going with Crystal Clear Alumilite to get away from the odor.

you will probably need some color.

I use the coastal scents mica, and several people use it. I really really really like it. If you get the sampler packs, they come with over 100 shades, and lots of pearls, and "inter" colors.

Potato can be used to clog the ends of the tubes, and thin wafers of wood can be gluedon each end to elevate the tubes. hopes this helps.

I get small blue silicone corks on ebay to plug the tubes. If your using smaller kits that the plugs wont fit in just put a tube in the drill press and drill them about 1/3 of the way into the plug and then peel the extra back and cut it off. I use small resin scraps that I get from cutting my blanks apart (I use square block molds) to glue my plugged tubes to. I used to use wood, but the wood absorbs the resin and puts off bubbles which can polute your cast. I think you will want to have something in the tubes or they will fill up with resin from any small opening. I like to have a resin beyond the end of my tube so I can square it up. Ive ruined a few from not having resin beyond the tubes and it exposed the material I was casting on the tube. Now what you need is time. Lots of time. Good Luck!

Where did you buy them?

google search coastal scents.

their website is coastalscents.com or something like that. click on the mica thing. I bought one of each of the two samplers and it is tons of colors. lots of neutral golds, browns, and such, but for me it is the best way to see what colors i might use in the future.

there are a couple of tutorials on casting here as well. very helpful!
