Hi Folks,
I saw them mentioned on an old thread on a wood working forum. I sent them an email asking about wood lathes they have for sale, but never heard from them. I was just wondering if anyone has ever delt with them. If you have, did they have good prices on what they offered? They have a one page web site that basically says that the site is coming soon.
Thanks

I think Mike has a General, and I think he is real happy with it. His IAP name is "vick"
you might want to look him up and drop him a note.

My grandfather used to have a General cabinet saw. Very well built and ran smooth and accurate.

Hi,

General lathe are built like tanks. The maxi-lathe VS+ is a great machine, my father have one and i'm shopping for one too. But they are a little more expensive than other brand.

I don't think that the place I'm talking about is the same as the one the two of you are talking about. I could be wrong though (just don't tell my wife I said that!).

The web page they had up basically said that they were a distributor of Jet products, a couple of which only they had to distribute. They were / are in Nashville Tn. The page is now down, so I can't find they 800 number they have. I just looked at it the other day. Oh well.
Thanks

I used to have a catalog for them if it is the same place. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks Alfred. That is the page I was walking about. I saw it listed on Google, but I thought that is was for a different company, so I didn't check it again. I forgot that they had the "supp" in the addy.

Thanks again,

I know it's not the same lathe but with everyone going on about how great the General lathes are I thought I'd share this. A modertor of the turning part of another ww'ing forum I visit sent his brand new General lathe back last year several months of dinking about with it to try and get it to operate properly.

If anyone would like more info, please PM me as I'm not looking to bash General in a public forum, just providing a bit of perspective.

Todd

No my Green machine is a Woodfast.

I know several people on Sawmill Creek are happy with General lathes. Don't quote me on this but General International I believe are made in China and the General machines made in Canada have a different name. Not positive though so you should double check.

General International tools are made in Taiwan and made to specs of General Tool. General Tool is made in Canada. Both tools have to meet Canada's strict requirments, which are higher than USA. Most of my tools in my shop are General International and I had no problems with any of them.:D

Haven't bought anything from them but have been inside looking through the shop in Nashville. They stock Jet and Powermatic tools that are returned or scratch n' dent. They have about every item made by these companies, all items have been gone through by their techs and are assembled ready to go out the door. Sales people seem to be very friendly. Most items I have seen are approximately 70% of retail, so the prices are good if you are able to pick them up at the store although TN sales tax is about 10%.

Thanks to everyone for all the comments.

jimbo5576,
Thanks. That is exactly what I was looking for. I have a friend in Memphis. If he goes out to nashville, I may have him check out the lathes they have for me.
