HUT is pretty much to game calls what CS is to pens.
If you have questions, call and ask for Larry. He is helpful and will not try to oversell you.
Personally, I prefer local woods because local people can relate to them. Avoid Dymondwood, my experience is that it can delaminate on it's own.

Well....yes...and no on the "any wood" comment. Yes, you can make a call from anything you wish. But, no, you won't get a good call with just "any wood". Different woods produce different sounds and a serious hunter well knows the difference. Generally (that means, only generally, not always) softer woods produce softer, less realistic sounds that don't carry very far. Generally (there's that word again) harder woods produce clearer, more realistic sounds that resonate well and carry further. I have been trying to design a crow call in wood for several years. Won't say it's impossible but I can't get the correct sound with wood. Cheap acrylics do produce a great sound. But, they aren't wood. [xx(] For duck, and most other, calls, Cocobolo works great. Beautiful sounds, looks terrific, is oily, meaning it holds up in the elements very well. Fun to turn. The ideal wood for calls. Almost. Downside is that just about everyone turns calls from Coco and it is not original at all. If you show a lot of Coco calls at a show, your display will just shout BEGINNER. Strange, but true. OTOH, Coco would be a good choice for your first call, then expand after that.

Andrew,

Warning.....turning game calls is ADDICTIVE. Especially if you hunt. Try this guy out, sells same kits and is alot cheaper. Plus he has tutorials on his ite to answer any questions you may have. Also he is great to work with.

Hope that helps. [:D] [:D] [:D]
