Brantley, glad to have you following in Dads footsteps, you going to have one of the finest teachers around. I don't know if you remember a few years ago when your Dad, your Mom and you came to see me in the Woodlands and your Dad insisted in buying you a pen, If my memory isn't totally gone I think it was a sketch pencil, do you still have it?

Hi Brantley happy to hear your entry into pens I do remember your dads pics of the many things such as the carport you made for him and his pride in having you please convey my kind regards to him and your Mum here at my place we have happy memories of your Dad saying could not sleep or made this in the early am all part of a prodigeous collection no doubt. I have spoken at length in the past with your Dad by Phone.

Looking forward to your pens as well.
Kind regards Peter.

Aloha Brantley. I want you to quickly learn everything you can from your dad, then come on out to Hawaii (Kauai) to visit, and teach me all the secrets! welcome to the pen turning world. How did the school tour of IAP go?

welcome brantley. i recently started turning with my son, so your dad must be proud like i am.
i guess i will also answer the question you asked. i think its law in the pen turning world to start with a slimline, and sounds like there is no shortage of guys around here that already know you and would be happy to share some pen kits and blanks with you.

Ok....guys...I'm in trouble ..  I haven't had time to spend in the shop lately.....I think that's about to change. As soon as I got home from work last night, Brantley was ready to register on IAP...an upon the suggestion of a friend enter the birthday bash contest ...lol...that would be you Mike Redburn. And after he sees the posts this morning..want to go to the Houston meeting...lol...thanks Monty...
Well, I have a very enthusiastic young man on my hands. It is really great bonding time. And when he puts his mind to something....stand back . I am very proud of him. Thanks so much for welcoming him! Regards, Doc :)

Welcome aboard Brantley. Your thread title should have read 'Head start' as you already have a great tutor / sponsor.!!! :)
In fact, I'm pretty sure I remember your Dad saying he would get you a lathe and some tools.....and some kits....and some blanks....if you took up pen making..:)

Ask him....I'm sure he'll remember......:)

Sorry Doc :)

Welcome aboard, Brantley!

I wish I could have learned when i was your age. That's great that you are able to share your hobby with your dad.

Can't wait to see your pens!

Steve

Welcome Brantley. I'm glad to have you with us. As others have said, your dad is a great pen maker, but he's also been a strong supporter of the IAP and great friend to our community here. He has advanced the art of pen making, and so of course we're counting on you to do the same, so get busy!

Hey Brantley.......Welcome to the IAP from the frozen north. You have a great start. You also have someone to always ask "What did I do wrong?" Besides being your father......he is a wonderful man and a credit to IAP and his profession.
You will do very will and with time, you will find that you have your own style. Your pens will be just as special as those that your dad makes. Listen to him, he won't steer you wrong. He will watch you move forward and soon you will be hearing him say "How did you do that?"

We look forward to seeing photos of your work.
