Woodchippers:
Saturday was the final formation for Charlie Company, 115th Signal Company
prior to deployment to Afghanistan. The formation was held at Grissum High
School.
Each member of the unit was presented a Freedom Pen. Our participation was,
for all practical purposes a last minute opportunity, so members of Charlie
Company were not expecting us. Thanks to Dave Carney of AUSA for working us
in.
The Woodchipper reps handing out the pens were Bob Hovde, Robin Bruno, Al
Reed, Daniel Green, Ila Allen and yours truly.
The youngest member of our group, 17 year old Daniel Green, presented the
First Sergeant with a pen that he turned from spalted maple.
Robin Bruno presented the Company Commander with a special Dymondwood pen
turned by Mike Hoefer.
And, since he is definitely operating under a handicap, the lowest ranking
enlisted man in the unit, Pvt Palmer, was presented the "special" pen shown
in the attached photo.
The obvious pleasure and gratitude of these young troops makes our efforts
worthwhile.
Again, thanks for your continued participation in the program.
V/R,
Boyce
