Perry, congrads I'm working on 5 months smoke free. Its one of the hardest things I've ever done, I'm a 3 pack a day person for the last 50 years.

Roy..The first year is the hardest ( 15yrs and counting). I always know that if I smoke one cigarette then I will be back on them as bad as ever. That would then be a waste of the last 15yrs.

I still get the occasional temptation.

But I have seen too many of my work collegues stop for months and then smoke one cigarette and thats them back to square one again.

You are both doing well . Keep it up

Great going guys, you really should be proud of yourselves. I quit long ago but I never really a smoker. I was a social smoker when I drank, always thought that was weird but haven't had the urge for years now! Keep us the hard fight guys!

Way to go Perry, two years and five months for me,and I still have the urge but will never go back to that stuff I can finally breath(better).

That's GREAT and not an easy thing to do.

23 years after quitting.... It is easy to feel the urge and easier to ignore it. All I have to do is think of the things that I can smell and taste now that I couldn't when I was smoking.

20 years and a few months now and still miss them I was a 3 & 4 pack a day of Cools smoker.
Hang in there you will always want one and there is alway a good excuse to start again but it does get easier to walk away with time.[:)] Oh and I quit drinking 21 years ago so I could quit smoking.[:D][:D]

I'll add my congratulations... I never smoked, tried as a teen, but it didn't take for some reason.. my father smoked until he was 74, he got a bronchial infection and the doctor told him he needed to stop, so he did.. cold turkey, but we lost him to a heart attack about 4 months after that.

Trying now to get my wife's son to give it up.. he's about a 2 pack a day.. but he drives a truck for a living and I'm sure the smoking keeps him awake while driving... don't know which will be worse, lung cancer or falling asleep at the wheel.

Keep strong, you have the worst of it behind you now. congratulations

Well done Perry, keep it up!

I gave up 2 packs a day nearly 3 years ago. Some of the money I would have spent on smokes now goes into my penturning bank account every month.[^]

I retired,6 months later i quit, its almost 6 months now, stopped cold turkey. Two packs a day for 40 yrs,my wife can`t beleive it,i have no urges, just reflects trigger thoughts, like climbing into my pick up,cause i could never smoke in wifes car..the daily costs of cigs can buy a lot blanks more then you can turn,i coulda been a millionare.. carl

Well done all of you. I've tried a few times to quit but I get irritable and end up taking it out on the ones closest to me.[:(]

Strange thing is, if I'm working in a place where I can't smoke then I'm ok with it. But I don't smoke in the house or near my family.

I'm not as heavy a smoker as some of you guys ( I'm amazed that half of you are still alive[:0]) 20 a day for the last 25 years. At todays price of £5 / pack, thats a whopping £ 45 625.00 ( $91 250.00 )

You can do it! Shane and I have been taking the new prescription (Chantix) for 3 weeks now. He has gone from 3 packs a day to less then one cig a day. I have gone from 1 pack a day to less then one cig a day. We haven't done anything drastic, we are on our last pack of shared cigs and then that is it. The craving just isn't there, the times when we would always have one is the hardest time, like in the shop or after dinner. We don't smoke in our house or around the kids.

I salute all of you who have quit! And those of you that did it cold turkey I am in awe of you. This is the 3rd time we have tried and this time we don't seem to be on our way to divorce court!

I am waiting on the pamphlet from chantix to come back.. I have been smoking for 25 years.. I have only tried once to quit.. I only lasted 3 weeks.. Thought I was going to kill my wife and kids I was so moody. I am really hoping the chantix works. Congrats to those that have quit.. I quit drinking 12 years ago.. That was easy compared to smoking..[:I]

Dan both the wife and I both used Chantix and it was the only thing that has worked for me. It has some side effects that some people get. I had weird dreams while on it but after 60 days I no longer had to use it. As I said before I smoked up to 3 packs a day for 50 years and if I can stop anyone can. Good luck to you....
