Just read the same stry on Yahoo news...More kids should write with a pen...With them text messaging, they really don't know how to write...

Absolutely right... I may be aging myself, but part of my third grad cariculum was a hand writing class. We spent most of an hour learning to do circles and lines and writing the cursives of fine hand writing... to bad most of it didn't take with me... once the ink is dry, I'm not always sure what I wrote down... we were required to do all of our papers through and including the Junior hear in ink, with a fountain pen, Ballpoints were not allowed.(we were required to type our Senior thesis).. I've done a number of craft/trade shows at schools and am always amazed at the interest the yougsters show in the fountain pens... should be brought back to ALL schools in U.S.

One of these is going into both my 1st grade and 6th grade daughter's stocking in a couple weeks. [:)]

I just took one of my fountain pens and put it to use. First time in almost 50 years writing with a FP. Also decided to try to learn to write right handed at the same time. Found some interesting sites:

I know my handwriting has gone down hill since computers became prevalent. Can't imagine how it is for people that don't spend time doing it in school like I did. Funny thing was, when I had to type a paper, I hated it but that wasn't until college. My term papers in high school had to be handwritten and NEAT. And while the schools are at it, make them learn to do math WITHOUT a calulator

When I was in grade school we had to learn penmanship using the cursive techniques. Our pens were dip style fountain (can a 'dip' pen be a 'fountain' pen?). I hated the exercises and never mastered them. What this school is doing but is merely quaint. I don't see any real value for practical purposes. I've lived through those days of dip pens to the current word processor on a computer. I'll take the computer anytime.
