Well, this hobby took it's first offshoot. I was driving over to my mom's the other day, and saw one of her neighbors cutting a large limb off of an olive tree. So after stopping and talking to him for a while, and finding out he planned on leaving it for the annual trash cleanup, I liberated the largest piece I could carry. With my little itty bitty limb cutting electric chain saw (the smaller pole type, not the 16" ones), I cut up the log and split it the best I could. I then sealed it with Rockler's Green Wood sealer. I later thought it looked ugly all chainsawed up and planned it with a hand held electric planer and resealed it. I am still trying to figure out how I am going to cut the thicker pieces because it is too thick for my table saw, and too large for my pathetically small band saw.

That is some great looking wood.

A hand saw will get the job done. That's what I use. I consider it exercise.

You could always send me a large flat rate box full and I would be happy to resaw it and ship it back---sometimes wood falls on the floor --- but you will get about 50% of it back:biggrin:

Sweet!! Only one thing better than free wood and that is some really good looking free wood!!!!!

If ya happen to go back and get more, I'd be more than willing to pay ya for a few small bowl sized blanks!!

Yea, you definitely need a bigger chain saw AND a bigger truck.

If you have good accountant he can set you up a business and let the dear ole government pay for everything  ... you know about depreciation, right?

That is some mighty nice wood. Bet if you made that dude a pen then he just might be your new friend! He might even call you for some more wood!

I agree; go back and get it all!!!!!!

I would check to see if anyone lives nearby and could resaw the pieces. That is too good to pass up!

Before the new forum we had a members map and you might be able to find someone locally to cut it for you.

A few pens from the wood makes a good grease for such a transaction....

Nice Wood With wood like that how could you not just keep loading the truck. I agree with all the others any extra that you just can't figure out how to cut let me know and I will help you out with it.

Found Wood - Olive

Thanks all for the kind words and offers, but alas, it was the day before the cleanup and it was all gone. And I had the little car so that was it. I ended up with 2 like the long piece that are about 2' long, the two crotch pieces (one is already pen blanks) and about 4 - 1' long pieces.

As a side note, I also work driving around town in a pickup all day, working nights for the police department. Part of my duty is traffic control at accidents and other blockages (can you say tree down in the roadway?) I have been building a good re pore with the tree guys and they will leave anything I ask for, as they shred anything under 12" diameter. I recently acquired a nice little eucalyptus branch that way with a nice variation of heart and sap wood. But what I am waiting for is along one of out main roads, we have a row of cork oaks, all bout 12" in diameter. We loose one about once a year to drunk drivers. I just hope I'm on duty when we do.
