I finally decided to dig out my old model building gear to harvest the paints for possible casting, or at least painting tubes and inside blanks.

I ran across something that i had pretty much forgotten about till i saw it. A Testors custom decal set. It is a little computer program that lets you print out a selection of water release decals. I think you can pay a few extra bucks and get lots of other designs as well. It comes with a little mini cd, several little sheets of the sticker paper and some spray sealer stuff.

I don't know if it would work or not, but there could be some cool ideas in there if it did work! (One of the things this software does is let's you decide what your license plate says and where it is from... I can see in my minds eye, a pen covered in little license plates!) Maybe you could use the software to print stickers on a different paper?

There are also flames, and lowrider Aztlan style designs. worth a look!

I've been using decals now for a few months. The local hobby store sells blank sheets that I print in my inkjet. After printing I let them sit for a day then I spray them with decal set to give them a little protection during application.
The possibilities are endless. They've actually been one of my better sellers for company logos, charities, etc.

Do you just apply CA over the decal?

Yes, but carefully for the first few coats. The first coat I apply in two passes over the decal. Second gets a couple of wipes. After the first couple I apply the CA the way I normally would, about 6 coats.
Then a plastic polish.

Friend of mine wanted a panio pen without the cost. I used the decal printing kit to make the design. Works real well.

I kinda figured you guys were already on the ball... I mainly brought it up because of the software that comes with it. It cost like $10 and there are quite a few designs. I have used it a few times on cars, but look forward to messing with decal pens eventually.

Any photo editing software will work and you can use any photo you want, not just images from the software.

Wow, this opens up a bunch of ideas...
I read the toutorial at Lumberjocks where he applies a decal to what looks like a birch or holly blank... I assume this can also be applied to acrylics??? and if so is it the same procedure ie. CA then decal then more CA???? or is the process different for acrylics??

WOW, There sure are alot of you guys in Ft. Myers! I used to live there, and my little brother still lives in the Cape. I miss the weather, and the scantily clad women, but i sure don't miss the traffic!!!

Procedure is the same. The hardest part for me was getting a good CA coating on the acrylic.....
