I think this idea is an excellent one and we should all take up the task ...

When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful and very special people who have sacrificed so much would get. :usflag:

Well, according to a very close friend of mine the idea of sending Christmas cards to the soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital will not work quite as planned.

Due to so called security procedures the hospital cannot accept cards for the soldiers due to restrictions imposed due to terrorist possibilities. They - the hospital - are afraid of a possible spread of bio-chemical contaminants to the soldiers by tainted cards.

The sentiment is good but it leaves one item out that is critical to the delivery of the card. Due to increased security and terrorist actions, Walter Reed will not and can not deliver any mail not addressed to a particular individual. The possibility of mail contamination is too great in a closed environment such as a hospital.

In checking with several sources folks can get the names and ranks of wounded American soldiers from several sources. The American Legion is a good place to start.

So, with a little effort on our part we can address the cards to individual soldiers at the hospital and the cards would then be delivered.

For the life of me I do not understand how this would keep the terrorists from not doing the same thing ...

Oh well ...

Your "friend" is ill-informed. It's easy to get the cards delivered, Just send them to the red cross Holiday mail for heroes program:
