Hello all!
My name is Dan and I am just discovering the beauty of making pens, I am taking woodshop at my school and am starting to branch out, having made 30+ pens in 6 months out of wood.

I am working on a turkey feather pen (doesn't look great, but it's for learning how to cast primarily) and a corn-cob pen! So excited how it will turn out, and have a step by step picture process as well!

Anyway, I was being a little adventurous on the web and watched almost every casting video out there, and I thought, can you cast food, and turn it into a pen!? I was thinking, glue some bread to the tubes, cast then turn! opinions?

P.S. Feel free to try it out yourself and post pictures!

Thanks!
Dan

But if its a PB&J pen, I may have to eat it! Welcome to the group and always find time to let the creative juices flow, you and others will be amazed at the outcome!

Hi Dan

Welcome to the group...!

The first rule that everyone agrees with is, "No pics...! didn't happen...!"

The second rule is, based on the first rule, quality of the camera/pics/photographer, is no excuse...!:biggrin:

The rest is, have fun whatever you do...!

Cheers
George

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but has anyone tried casting cicadas? Right now in my area the 13 year brood is just now emerging. There will be millions of them every where in a few days.Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome, Dan.

As already mentioned, I've seen pasta and coffee blanks (cast as a block then drilled, turned, etc.)

I've also seen and/or done rice, lentils, beans, peppers, grapenuts, oatmeal, spices, popcorn, and other seeds, etc.

I'd add to the requirement that it "hold still", that you also may not want something that dissolves in liquid or melts at low temperatures.

Good luck.

Ordering my mini-sketch pen for my PB&J pen(cil).

Can't wait!

Also, for Ice Age Mosaic, should I go with Broadwell Art Deco Rhodium Fountain, or Broadwell Nouveau Sceptre Rhodium + 22k?

And anyone selling the one that is chosen? PM me

I was all set to post a link to the edible pen contest from this year's Birthday Bash... but I can't find it!

Do bash threads get deleted when the bash is over? Did somebody have the foresight to destroy the evidence?
