My Niece got married this past weekend and I told her to save some of her flowers from the wedding and I would try to cast a pen for her. Well 30 seconds later I was holding the bouquet:eek::eek:. Now this I cant mess this up. Has anyone ever taken fresh floweres and dried and cast them? I would like to preserve the colors as much as possible. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

For drying, I believe most craft stores have a "powder" that you can put the flowers into and it will take out the moisture over several days to a week (? I THINK, my wife has done this before). You could try that, but casting might be a little tricky, at least keeping it from coming apart where the petals are...

I have used silica gel with ok results. Some flowers will lose their bright colors no matter what. I have not followed up in the process because I didn't really like the looks of them all chopped up, twisted around ect in the cast blanks. I was thinking of trying to lay them on a tube and just slowly build up using mod podge and letting them dry for a week before casting.

Looks like a trip to Michael's or Hobby Lobby is in my near future.

Hobby Lobby - Dri Splendor Silica Gel - I used these little beads to dry all the bluebonnets I got the other day. Put a layer of them in a microwaveable container lay your flower on top the layer then cover the flowers with more silca beads (gel). Set in microwave and zap it or dont put it in the microwave either way
