My name is Jim. Recently retired from the aviation business. Getting into pen turning and need lots of help and advice. I know that supplies can be found in abundance on line but I enjoy being able to find or make my own things.
I scrounge fire wood piles, old hardwood cabinets and furniture, even baseball bats. Not having much success so far. Would like to hook up with turners in my local area to trade or buy wood. A short drive is okay, all part of the fun.
Also trying to make my own dyes. So far have tried coffee, blue berries, clothing dyes and curry powder/ tumeric.
Again less than spectacular success.
Well thats me for starters. I will be on with many questions soon enough. For now just looking for some wood in the Ocala area of Florida. It is south of Gainesville, north of Tampa, and west of Orlando.
