Buffalo Bill and I went out this weekend on a crappie fishing trip. It is a little early in the season, and with all of this cold weather and snow, it has slowed the season down even more. If you want the bigger fish though, you have to go out early in the season.

Bill and I have definitely caught our fair share of crappies, but these were some of the biggest fish we have ever caught. Most fish were in the 2 pound category. The weather was absolutely spectacular, 64 degrees, no wind, and not a cloud in the sky!

In another two weeks, the fishing action should be unbelievable, but they will be smaller fish.

WOW! those are some SLABS! my mouth is watering!

I have been trying to trade a pistol for a fishing boat for a couple of weeks now but no luck yet... Hopefully i get one soon. I am about to go crazy not being able to get out to my honey holes.

Those are some NICE fish. I can't wait to get out, I'm hoping our 3 feet of snow melts soon.

Can you make a pen from the skin? I just thought about that yesterday, that could make an interesting pen.

What do you do with Crappies - eat them??

Up here, a Crappie means "crap; didn't catch a walleye!" :)

I will tell ya' having eaten both walleye and crappie, the crappie is by far the better fish to eat! A striper is about the only other fresh water fish that can beat a crappie for whiter and sweeter flavor of meat.

We went after these with ultra light tackle, a 2 pound leader and a 4 pound main line....lots of fun!

I had not thought of making a pen skin out of it...will have to figure out a plan to use the skins next time....Anyone with ideas, throw them out there and I will try them, although I have not done skins of any type in the past....

Robert it looks like you had a good time. What lake did you go to? Look forward to seeing everybody at the local chapter meeting a week from this Saturday. Russell
