Hello All
Is there anyone in the Portland Oregon area know where I could go close by to chatch some cat fish. I love them and used to fish for them when I was a boy with my grandfather in Oklahoma and Kansas. I will keep this short. But please let me know if you have an idea where.

Thanks Rod

Hey Rod, in what part of Kansas/Oklahoma did you grow up? I lived just south of Tom in and around Columbus, KS and we pulled some might nice catfish out of the Neosho river around Chetopa (Catfish and Pecan capitol of Kansas, 'bout 10 minutes north of the Oklahoma border)........

Rodney,
I went to the ODFW website

http://www.dfw.state.or.us/warm_water_fishing/North_Willamette.asp

Here is an excerpt: Henry Hagg Lake -Located less than 30 miles west of Portland near the City of Forest Grove.Summer is also a goodtime to fish for catfish. Although not everyone will catch a state record like the nearly 3 ½ pounder, anglers will find at Henry Hagg Lake some of the nicest brown bullhead of any water in the Willamette Valley. During the summer, brown bullhead can be caught using bait fished on the bottom in deeper areas of the lake coves and arms. Most standard gear works well for catfish, such as a 5-7 foot casting or spinning rod and 4-8 pound test line rigged with a slip-sinker and bait as shown in this guide. Tie a 12-18 inch length of leader below the swivel and attach a hook baited with worms or other panfish or catfish bait. Baits with a strong odor work best for catfish. The sliding sinker allows the catfish to take the bait before feeling the weight of the sinker.

Otherwise it says Channel catfish in western Oregon are limited to the Columbia River, lower Willamette River, and a few ponds in the Willamette Valley.

Rodney, I will say catfishing is just about the same in any state except for time of year. I would say the best places to find them right now would be in the open mouths of creeks or channels that run into the lakes. Any coves are good areas and most lakes have camping coves. Right now in Oklahoma is a good time to noodle (I am a bit nuts sometimes) so the cats are up in shallower waters. I would check fishing reports on the Oregon Dept. of Wildlife page and see what's happening around the state. Oklahoma gives great fishing reports for each lake on ours.
